Training is supposed to be fun

you see all these videos and pictures of brilliant sportsmen and women

bulging muscles, incredible stamina

the most amazing feats of endurance and skill,

speed, technique, strength and self discipline.

Here I am after two days of training my muscles so sore and painful it hurts to walk or lift anything. I almost feel like weeping.

it’s at moments like this you realise that these high level athletes put this kind of work in every day and have felt this pain so many times they no longer flinch at it.

These high achievers, these athletes have had the guts and self discipline to go beyond a bit of hurt,
to move past a little pain, to reach through soured, aching muscles for something more. And, WOW just look at the results!

Can I also turn myself from an overweight wimpy granny into a champion?
Can I?
Do I have the discipline, the stamina, the tenacity – and here is a good word – the grit – to make it happen?

I feel the pain today – but I am inspired to do it again and again – for those kind of results.

So thank you, all athletes, for being inspiring
