remember remember

We forget all the time
what is important
we are too easily distracted
we have no mental stamina – the attention span of a gnat
I think a gnat might even have a better attention span than we do.

We are taught a great deal at schools and throughout our education.
But some things we are not taught.

The most basic ones are

How to pay attention – we are just told that we must pay attention – but never taught how.
We are told we must remember – but no one explains to us how this is done

How does this brain-wide filing system we have work?
How do we remember important things – and can we recall them at will?
Why do we forget – do we really need to practice over and over to finally remember something?
Or – are there other ways – is there a better way into our own minds?

No one teaches us this – perhaps they don’t know – and perhaps they have also had to work it out through a hit and miss system – we are not taught anything that actually helps us with our memory –  or recall – or learning abilities
We are only told that we must become capable of this – but never how.

The trick is recall – well that’s one trick
Try it now- sit still now and remember your last thought – and then the one before that –
before it dissipates
can you do it?
Has your mind gone blank – did you even try it?

It’s asking yourself – what am I thinking – and usually the mind is instantly blank
instantly
so the answer is always “I don’t know”

This can be changed

By actively remembering – what was my last thought?
Another method is meditation – to sit down and start actually watching your own thoughts as they turn up and chug along without getting involved in them – it takes about three seconds to be completely involved in them again and be chugging along with them – instead of watching them.
If you can even start watching them at all –

We never learn – not this.

And how do you know where you have remembered anything – on which matrix – in which filing system – in which train of thought – what part of my brain – where did I put that memory – how do I get it back?
Most of us cannot even think along these lines –
Or retrieve any information at will – because we don’t know how we remember it or where we have put it.

We are never taught this.

And it’s getting worse – now we have information at our fingertips and calculators at the click of a button, we have research tools to show us any information instantly, so we need not remember anything at all anymore.

The brain does not learn anymore – or it completely atrophies – this is not a good thing – who now, can recite poetry or accurately relay a fact?
We have to reach for our technology to retrieve anything at all
Our brains are no longer trained to do it.

I lost my mind
I put my mind somewhere – but I cant think where it is.

I don’t think people quite understand what a devastating loss this is
We are, quite literally ‘loosing our minds’

Barely anyone has spotted it

have you?
