Not sure if it’s the calm before the storm, or weather the storm is what just happened, it’s a bit hard to tell
I’m sure something is not quite right
I never trust it when it all goes calm
It’s the cascade effect – that tiny grain of sand that slips down and slides into another little grain soon it’s a little trickle of sand grains which dislodges a tiny pebble that bounces down, skipping here and there causing others to move, then a rock is rolling from it’s spot and suddenly everything is thundering down to the valley.
All you can do is watch
All you can do is get out of the way
It happens in life, not just with sand and pebbles and rocks,
In life, you argue with your spouse over nothing, you receive that final demand, you lose your logins and there is nothing in the account, then the urgent phone call, your aunt has fallen ill. Then the neighbour knocks at the door – he’s accidentally backed in to your car – the rain is deafening and a leak in the roof suddenly gets worse – which must be fixed urgently but you just spent the last of your savings paying that final demand – and your account is now blocked and you can’t find your card, or your keys for that matter.
One grain of sand
The cascade effect – the avalanche – this mudslide of things happening until it becomes so overwhelming you simply can’t keep it under control, your footing slips – you fall.
The only thing to do in a cascade
Is let the cascade happen
Take your hands away from the keyboard – let go of your reaction – stop trying to control it
Be calm – take your attention away and just watch
let it all cascade into collapse
so it comes to it’s crashing tumbling halt.
You can’t control it anyway
So let it all slide to a standstill.
Let it all go
Let it
Till the last grain of sands stops moving and it is silent once again
and when it all goes quiet
you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off
and see what to do, because at last you CAN see what to do.
Even if it’s only picking up pieces
you have to be OK with that
just sometimes the cascade effect will be just that
a cascade – and the only way to survive it is
hands off
letting go
waiting for the calm
